The planning team for the Young Adult Forum has been working hard and is excited about our time together in December. We have lot to share with you, and several questions to ask you. Here are a few things to know and to do before you head out to Phoenix next month:

Attached to this message you’ll find an outline of the schedule for the Forum, and an airport pick-up schedule for Monday, 12/15. If we are picking you up from the Phoenix airport, please find your way to the last door on the north side of terminal 4 at your designated pick-up time. Also, to help us accomodate everyone, please let me know ASAP if you have any dietary restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc).

Would you be willing to write a prayer? Read a scripture? Offer your musical talent? Share your creative thoughts to shape our final worship service together so that our worship flows out of our conversations? We’re hoping to involve as many people as possible in our worshipping together. Let me know this week if you’re willing to help.

In order to start from a common place in our discussions, the planning team would like to encourage you to take a look at several resources about ministry in the Church of the Brethren: Our current Ministerial Leadership Paper and the corresponding In Our Midst resources are available online, and give a helpful picture of where the denomination stands at present in calling, credentialing, training, and sustaining church leaders. The study questions in the In Our Midst resources might be especially helpful to kick-start your thought processes about the things we’ll be discussing.

We know that this conversation about ministry and leadership in the church is neither starting nor ending in December, so we’ve set up a blog to extend the conversation. Check out for conversation, additional resources, and connection with fellow young adult leaders. We hope that this can be a place where conversations about culture, church, and leadership can be on-going, keeping us connected to one another and inviting others into the conversation, as well.

Welcome to Already and Not Yet, a blog coinciding with the upcoming Young Adult Forum: A Theological Conversation on Ministry sponsored by the Church of the Brethren‘s Office of Ministry.

For the time being this site is still somewhat “under construction” so don’t be surprised if you notice little changes here and there. We will be posting some content between now and the forum, so feel free to go ahead and begin responding using the comments sections at the bottom of each page.

As we prepare to gather in Arizona in about a month to formally begin our conversation, what thoughts are on your mind? What does being “called” mean to you? How can our tradition of “set-apart” ministry best serve and enliven a church facing major changes? What should leadership look like within the church? Feel free to share your responses in the comments section below:
